Treehouse, Atlanta, USA by Peter Bahouth | via

Architect Peter Bahouth built a series of houses in the trees connected by wooden bridges in Atlanta. Inspired by his love for nature and his childhood memories of boyhood treehouses, environmentalist Peter Bahouth created this grown-up fort in his Atlanta backyard. The three rooms of this treehouse have been named ‘Mind,’ ‘Body’ and ‘Spirit’ by its owner. A suspension bridge connects the living room to the bedroom that includes a platform bed which slides out for a better view of the tree canopy.

Nevada Assemblywoman Lucy Flores is running to become the first Latina Lieutenant Governor of her state.  She’s no billionaire’s wife, no Ivy League prodigy, no daughter of some ruling-class family from Latin America.  Lucy Flores grew up poor in a family of 13 children. A daughter of immigrants, she dropped out of high school, got involved in gangs and spent time incarcerated. She saw all her sisters become teen mothers and didn’t want that for herself. When she became pregnant at 16, she had an abortion that she doesn’t regret.

She eventually turned her life around. She went to college and later law school. Yet she doesn’t twist her success into a bootstraps narrative of a self-made woman. Instead, she acknowledges all the support she got along the way.  She bears witness to the fact that it was the chance generosity of individuals, and not a reliable safety net in our society that made the difference. Her own lived experience becomes the basis of her progressive agenda for social change.

Lucy Flores defies the politics of respectability. She’s single, childless, honest about her sexual past, and fierce in her advocacy for poor and marginalized people.  She takes bold stands on immigration, education, and domestic violence. Her experience makes her an effective advocate, but it also makes her a new kind of role model for Latina women.  Like Justice Sonia Sotomayor before her, we are watching a smart, single, childless Latina rise from poverty to political authority.  But Flores’ background not only includes the “humble beginnings” of poverty, but the stigmatizing experiences that can accompany poverty, like jail, dropping out, and unplanned pregnancy.

So I actually got done from attending her first meet on her way to campaign for Lt Governor here in Nevada and I met her and she’s a very genuine and humble woman.

I’m not huge on politics here and I definitely don’t identify as a Democrat, but she appeals to me on so many levels. I honestly feel she’d give it her all to bringing about a lot of real positive changes to the education system here in Nevada because it’s honestly shit.

A huge important piece of information I learned today from one of the supporters, who also happens to be autistic, is that here in Las Vegas, no changes have been implemented whatsoever towards special ed programs since the 70s! I knew it was bad, but never knew the exact extent. I’m glad someone is finally highlighting that issue.

I am pretty excited to have this woman be a representative for Nevada. I know sooner or later my personal political views might not correlate with the Democratic view since I know a lot of people might consider them “radical” and too “leftist”, but I don’t care. I’m going to give my 2 cents to anything I feel is being overlooked and at least I’m on my way to being a part of bringing more awareness to poor communities of color like mine that desperately need educational resources and access to reproductive health and information.

ima keep you posted :)

I’m not over this. Not one bit.

Tenzin totally owned Zaheer and only lost because he was outnumbered.

Tenzin is the master and Zaheer is merely a student.

Aang would be proud in all of his children.
